Business Box is booking software for small businesses in Japan, made by App Dev Plus G.K. (App Dev Plus 合同会社) in Minato-ku, Tokyo, and launched in 2026. It combines a booking page, Google and Microsoft calendar sync, and card payment in yen through each business’s own Stripe account, in English and Japanese. It was founded by Ben Smith, who previously founded the B2B SaaS business Tabscanner.

Why it exists#
Business Box exists to give small businesses in Japan a simple set of tools to handle the everyday work of running a business, without the complexity and cost of traditional business software.
Founder#
Ben Smith is a British software founder and developer based in Japan. He has spent more than 20 years building software across finance, SaaS and online services, including founding Tabscanner, a profitable B2B SaaS business used by companies around the world.
Business Box grew out of his experience running small businesses in Japan, where the software on offer was either built for another country or built for much larger companies. It starts with booking and payments in yen, with agreements, invoicing and client records to follow, all made for the way small businesses in Japan actually work, in English and Japanese.
He leads the product and its development at App Dev Plus G.K. in Tokyo.

Business Box: two words, both capitalised, in English and in Japanese text alike. Not “BusinessBox” or “Business-Box”. The website is marubox.jp, and the app is at app.marubox.jp.
