Booking in LINE
Your customers tap a button in your LINE chat and book there and then — no website, no sign-in, no email address to type. Their confirmation arrives in the same chat. Everything lands in Business Box exactly like a booking made anywhere else.
Go to Settings → Integrations → LINE and fill in Booking in LINE with a LINE MINI App channel. Then add a button to your rich menu in LINE Official Account Manager pointing at the booking link the page gives you. Connecting your Official Account as well, under Messages from your Official Account, turns confirmations into LINE messages instead of emails.
Two halves, and you can have just the first#
Booking in LINE is the booking screen itself, and it works on its own. Customers book inside LINE and their confirmations go by email, exactly as before.
Messages from your Official Account is the second half. With it, those confirmations arrive as cards in the LINE chat instead. It is optional, and nothing else changes if you never set it up.
LINE is part of the subscription. There is no extra charge from us, however many customers book this way.
Setting up the booking screen#
You need a free login at the LINE Developers console, and the provider that owns your Official Account. Business Box shows these steps on the page as you go.
- In LINE Developers, create a channel of type LINE MINI App.
- Open Web app settings and paste in the endpoint URL Business Box shows you — into all three fields, Developing, Review and Published.
- Copy the Channel ID, Channel secret and LIFF ID — all three from the same internal channel. Use Developing while you are testing.
- Paste all three into Business Box and press Save.
A MINI App channel is really three internal channels — Developing, Review and Published — and each has its own channel ID, secret and LIFF ID. Your customers open Published; you and your testers open Developing. So on the day you publish, come back here and replace all three values with the Published channel's, and point your rich menu at the new booking link. Changing only the LIFF ID leaves your customers unable to open the booking screen at all.
Your MINI App channel and your Official Account must sit under the same provider in LINE Developers. LINE ties a customer's identity to the provider, so two different ones never deliver — and it cannot be changed afterwards, only recreated. Check this before you build anything on top.
Publishing it#
Until you publish, only channel admins and testers can open your booking screen — which is what you want while you are setting it up, and no use at all to a customer. Publish the channel as an unverified MINI App: there is no review and no waiting.
LINE's optional verification review is a separate thing, takes a week or two, and buys features this does not need. Skip it unless you want the verified badge.
Then swap Business Box over to the Published channel's three values, change your rich menu link, and test it from an account that is not an admin or a tester. That last test is the only one that proves it is really public.
Check it on your phone#
Get a test link gives you a link that opens the booking screen as yourself. Send it to your phone — pasting it into your own LINE Keep memo is the easiest way — and tap it there. It has to be tapped inside LINE; in an ordinary browser the page cannot tell who you are and says so.
When it opens, the settings page notices and a Send a test message button appears. Press it. That single message is the only check that catches the two channels being under different providers, which LINE gives no other sign of.
Putting the button in your chat#
Nothing appears in your chat by itself. Under Buttons for your LINE chat Business Box gives you two links:
- Book — opens the booking screen.
- Check or change a booking — shows that customer their own appointments with you.
In LINE Official Account Manager, go to Rich menu, create one, pick a template, and set each area's action to Link with one of those URLs. The rich menu is the strip of buttons along the bottom of your chat.
Worth doing as well: paste the Book link into your Greeting message, so every new friend gets it the moment they add you. Using Lステップ, エルメ or Liny? Add the same links as buttons there — those tools manage your rich menu.
Messages from your Official Account#
This half sends the confirmation, change and cancellation as cards in the LINE chat.
- In LINE Official Account Manager: Settings → Messaging API → Enable.
- Copy the Channel ID and secret from the Basic settings tab in LINE Developers, and paste them into Business Box.
- In LINE Developers, open your MINI App channel, find Add friend option, and link this Official Account.
Without it LINE cannot tell us whether a customer has added you, and your cards quietly go out as emails instead. Nothing appears to be wrong — the booking works and the confirmation arrives — which is exactly what makes it worth doing now rather than wondering later.
Under What to send by LINE you can turn each of the three kinds on or off independently. Anything you turn off is sent by email instead.
The webhook, and when to leave it alone#
Business Box shows a Webhook URL. Pasting it into your Messaging API channel and turning on Use webhook is how LINE tells us when somebody adds or blocks your account. In LINE Official Account Manager this is the Webhooks toggle under Response settings; with it off, nothing reaches us at all.
If Lステップ, エルメ or Liny manages your account, that tool owns it, and taking it would stop their tool working. Leave it alone — booking in LINE and your confirmation cards both work without it.
What your customers see#
They tap your Book button and the booking screen opens inside LINE. There is no sign-in: LINE has already said who they are, so their name is filled in. They choose a service, choose a time, fill in anything missing, pay if the service has a price, and they are done. The next time they book, their details are remembered.
The confirmation arrives in the chat as a card with the service, the time, where it is, and buttons to join the meeting or change the booking. If you move or cancel the appointment, another card arrives the same way.
If you have asked for it, customers are prompted to add your Official Account before booking — you can suggest it, require it, or not mention it.
When LINE cannot deliver#
Business Box sends that customer an email instead, automatically. Nobody ever misses a confirmation because of LINE. That applies when they have blocked you, when they have never added you, when your monthly message allowance has run out, and when the booking was made somewhere other than LINE — a booking from your website has no LINE identity attached, so its confirmation goes by email.
LINE counts every message your account sends and your LINE plan sets the monthly limit. Messages this month shows how much you have used.
What you get told#
Emails, the same as always. Business Box does not message you in LINE about your own bookings — LINE is for talking to your customers. Bookings made in LINE appear in Booking → Bookings alongside every other booking, and obey the same availability rules.
Common questions
Do my customers need a Business Box account to book in LINE?
No, and they do not sign in at all. LINE has already identified them, so the booking screen opens with their name filled in.
Does booking in LINE cost extra?
Not from us — it is part of the ¥1,200 a month subscription. LINE itself counts the messages your Official Account sends, and your LINE plan sets that allowance.
Do I need a LINE Official Account?
Not for booking. Customers can book inside LINE with only the MINI App channel set up, and their confirmations go by email. The Official Account is what turns those confirmations into LINE messages.
Do my customers have to add me as a friend?
Only if you want to message them in LINE, because LINE will not deliver to anyone who has not added your account. You can require it before booking, suggest it, or leave it alone — anyone who has not added you simply gets their confirmation by email.
I use Lステップ. Will this break it?
No, as long as you leave the webhook alone. A LINE channel has one webhook and your tool owns it. Booking in LINE and your confirmation cards both work without taking it, and you can add the booking links as buttons in that tool instead.
Do I need LINE to approve my MINI App before customers can use it?
No. Publish it as an unverified MINI App and there is no review. Until you publish, only channel admins and testers can open it. LINE’s verification review is optional, takes a week or two, and buys features booking does not need.
I published the app and now nobody can open the booking screen.
Your customers are on the Published internal channel, which has its own channel ID, secret and LIFF ID. Replace all three in Business Box with the Published channel’s values — not just the LIFF ID — and point your rich menu at the new booking link.
Why did my customer get an email instead of a LINE message?
Most often because they have not added your Official Account, or because the MINI App channel is not linked to it under Add friend option. It can also be your monthly message allowance running out, or a booking that was not made in LINE in the first place.
