Convenience store and PayPay payments
A meaningful share of Japanese consumers would rather pay at a convenience store or with PayPay than type a card number. Business Box takes cards.
No. Online payment is by card. Konbini payment, PayPay and bank transfer are not available through the booking flow.
Why it matters here#
Card penetration in Japan is lower than in most comparable markets, and konbini payment and QR wallets are genuinely mainstream rather than a niche. For a business selling to Japanese consumers — particularly younger ones and those outside the big cities — card-only is a real filter on who can book.
It matters much less if your customers are foreign residents, overseas visitors or businesses, who are overwhelmingly paying by card anyway.
And there is a second reason beyond preference#
Konbini payment is not instant — the customer receives a code and pays within a few days. Any booking flow that accepts it has to hold the slot for that long, which is a different design from a card payment that either succeeds or fails within a minute.
Take them at the appointment instead#
Set the appointment type to Paid in person, at the appointment. The price is shown to the customer when they book and recorded on the booking, and you take the money on the day however you like — cash, your own card reader, a PayPay QR code, a transfer.
It needs no Stripe account and no subscription, and it removes the payment-method problem entirely at the cost of the commitment that prepayment buys. Paid in person
Or split it#
Offer the same service as two appointment types: one paid online by card, one paid at the appointment. The customer chooses, and you keep the prepayment from everyone who is happy to use a card.
Or collect outside the booking#
Take the booking as free, and send a PayPay request or bank details separately. Nothing is enforced, so it suits regulars rather than strangers.
What card payment does cover#
Every major card, through your own Stripe account, in yen, from customers anywhere in the world. For businesses selling to visitors and foreign residents, that is most of the market.

Can customers pay by konbini?
No. Online payment is by card only. You can show the price and collect it at the appointment instead, which works with any method you accept in person.
Does Business Box support PayPay?
Not in the booking flow. You can accept a PayPay QR code at the appointment by setting the appointment type to paid in person.
Can I take a bank transfer?
Not through the booking. Make the appointment free to book and invoice separately, or take payment at the appointment.
