Annual contracts and getting out of them
The annual price is thirty per cent cheaper, which is a good deal if the software suits you in month eight and an expensive one if it does not.
Pay monthly until you are sure. Before committing to a year, check how you cancel, what happens to your bookings afterwards, and whether you can get your data out.
Why the discount exists#
An annual plan is worth more to a software company than twelve monthly ones, because it removes eleven opportunities to leave. The discount is real, and so is what it buys them.
That is fine when the fit is good. The cost lands when you discover in month three that the tool cannot do something you need — and you have paid until next December.
What to check before committing#
- How do I cancel? In the app, or by email to a support address?
- What happens to existing bookings when I stop paying? Do they survive, or vanish with the account?
- Can I export my data? Ask on the way in, not on the way out.
- What does the free or downgraded tier still do? If the answer is nothing, cancelling means a migration.
How Business Box bills#
Monthly, at ¥1,200 tax included, cancellable at any time from Billing → Manage subscription, which opens Stripe's own customer portal. There is no annual commitment and no minimum term.
Cancelling runs to the end of the period you have paid for, then drops you to the free plan. Managing your subscription
What you keep if you stop paying#
Almost everything. The free plan keeps booking pages, calendar sync, availability, reminders, invite links and the website widget, with no time limit. The one thing that stops is taking card payment online — your prices and cancellation policies are kept, and existing bookings, including refunding them, are unaffected.
That is the deliberate design: downgrading should not be a migration.
Where we are worse#
There is no data export today. Your bookings are in your connected Google or Outlook calendar, which can be exported, and card payments are all in your own Stripe dashboard — but there is no button that hands you a spreadsheet of your bookings. Exporting your data
We also bill by card only. If your business needs to pay by invoice or bank transfer, which is common in Japan, that is not supported.
Common questions
Is there an annual contract?
No. Business Box is billed monthly and can be cancelled at any time from the billing page; there is no minimum term.
What happens if I cancel?
The subscription runs to the end of the period you paid for, then you are on the free plan. Everything except online card payment keeps working, nothing is deleted, and your prices and policies are kept.
Can I pay by bank transfer or invoice?
Not today — the subscription is card only. For a Japanese business that expects to pay 請求書 against a bank transfer, that is a genuine limitation.
Set this up in about ten minutes
Business Box is free for as long as you like, with no card required — booking pages, Google and Outlook calendar sync, availability, Japanese public holidays and the website widget. Taking card payment for bookings is ¥1,200 a month, tax included, with no commission on what you sell.
