Making customers create an account to book

Somebody ready to book now has to choose a password, find a verification email and come back. A proportion of them do not come back.

In short

Booking should need a name, an email address and a time. Business Box asks for nothing else and has no customer account at all — the booking itself is the record, reachable from a private link.

Every step loses people#

An account requirement adds at least four: choose a password, receive an email, find it, verify. Each one is a place to give up, and the giving up happens silently — you see none of it.

It is worst on a phone, which is where most bookings are made, and worst again for somebody booking a first appointment with a business they do not yet trust.

Why tools ask for it#

Usually for good reasons that serve the platform more than your customer: a repeat-booking history, a marketplace profile, a mailing list. If the platform is a marketplace, its account is the product. If it is a booking tool, the account is friction you are paying for.

What booking actually requires#

A time, a name and an email address. That is the whole flow: pick a slot, fill in the form, confirmed. No password, no verification step, nothing to install. What the customer does

And they can still manage the booking#

Every confirmation and reminder links to the customer's own booking page, where they can add it to their calendar, reschedule or cancel. It works without a login because the link itself is the key, and it is private to that booking.

The one case where a check is worth it#

If you are being targeted by bots or by somebody booking under other people's addresses, you can turn on email verification: a six-digit code the customer enters before a free booking is accepted. It is off by default because it is real friction, and paid bookings never need it — a completed card payment has already proved the person is real. Checking the booker’s email

And the protection that costs nothing#

There is an invisible anti-spam check that only asks a visitor to do something when it is genuinely unsure, plus daily ceilings far above anything a real customer does. Most people never see any of it.

Common questions

Do customers need to create an account to book?

No. They pick a time, enter a name and email address, and are confirmed. There is no password, no app and no customer account at all.

How do customers change a booking without logging in?

Every confirmation and reminder links to their own private booking page, where they can reschedule, cancel or add it to their calendar. The link is the key.

Is there any protection against fake bookings?

Yes — an invisible anti-spam check and daily limits per email address and per connection. If you are being targeted specifically, you can also require an emailed six-digit code for free bookings.
