Customers booking the wrong appointment
They booked "a manicure" and need removal first. They booked an infill and need a full set. Nobody did anything wrong, and everyone after them waits.
One event type per service with an honest length, named the way a customer would say it, plus a required question on the form for the thing that changes the duration.
Why customers get it wrong#
- They do not know your vocabulary. The difference between two of your services is obvious to you and invisible to them.
- One option does everything. If there is a single "appointment", it is what they will pick.
- Nobody asked the deciding question. Whether they have existing gel on, whether it is a first visit, how many rooms.
The cost compounds: one mis-booked appointment in the morning is an apology to everybody in the afternoon.
One event type per service#
With the length each one actually takes. The calendar then only offers slots long enough to hold the work, which removes the problem at the source rather than managing it.
Name them the way a customer would#
"Gel manicure with removal" beats "Service B". Put the length and the price in view, and use the description for the thing that decides between two similar options.
Ask the deciding question#
One required question on the booking form catches most of the rest: Do you need removal first?, Is this your first visit?, How many rooms? The answer arrives with the booking, before the day.
When it happens anyway#
Open the booking and Reschedule it into a slot of the right length, or cancel and re-add it against the right event type. The customer is emailed either way.
Common questions
How do I stop customers booking too short an appointment?
Make each service its own event type with an honest duration, so the calendar only offers slots long enough. Then add a required question for whatever changes the length.
Can I ask a question that changes the price?
The price is set per event type rather than by an answer, so the way to charge differently is a separate event type. Questions collect information; they do not alter the amount.
What if somebody books the wrong one?
Reschedule it into a slot of the right length, or cancel and re-add it against the correct event type. The customer is emailed automatically.
