Time zone mistakes

Somebody joined at 09:00 their time for a 09:00 meeting in yours. Neither of you did anything obviously wrong, and one of you wasted a morning.

In short

Set your availability once in your own time zone and let the booking page convert it. The other person sees their own times, books, and their confirmation and reminders use their zone too.

Why it keeps happening#

  • Two people converting in opposite directions, one of them tired.
  • Daylight saving. Japan does not observe it, so the gap to London or New York changes twice a year and every rule of thumb built on it breaks.
  • Ambiguous confirmations. "Tuesday at 3" in an email is not a time.

The cost is not just the wasted hour. It is the apology, and the small doubt it plants about whether you are organised.

Let the page do the arithmetic#

Your availability lives in your own time zone. The visitor's browser says where they are, and the page shows your times converted to theirs, with the zone named on screen so they can check it. They can change it too, for the client who is travelling.

And it stays converted#

The confirmation email, the calendar attachment, every reminder and the client's own booking page all use their zone. Your bookings list and your calendar use yours. Neither of you ever converts anything. Time zones

Where both times are shown#

On the booking itself, when the two differ, you see the client's local time underneath your own — useful before you phone somebody at what turns out to be six in the morning.

Do not move your schedule's time zone to travel

The schedule's zone belongs to where the work happens, not where you are sitting. Changing it moves every existing opening. If you are away, close those dates with date overrides instead. Date overrides

Common questions

Do clients abroad see my availability in their own time zone?

Yes, automatically, with the zone named on screen. Their confirmation, calendar invitation and reminders all use their time zone as well.

What about daylight saving?

Handled by the conversion. Japan does not observe daylight saving, so the offset to Europe and North America changes twice a year — the page accounts for it rather than you remembering.

Should I change my time zone when I travel?

No. The schedule’s time zone is where the work happens. Changing it shifts every existing opening; close the dates you are away with date overrides instead.
